Justice of the Peace Training
What is Justice of the Peace (JP)?
A Justice of the Peace (JP) is a local elected official who serves as a judge in a variety of minor civil and criminal matters. JPs handle cases such as small claims disputes, traffic violations, and landlord-tenant issues, as well as performing administrative duties like officiating weddings and certifying documents. They play a key role in ensuring justice is accessible and efficient, often serving as the first point of contact for individuals navigating the legal system.
Do I need a degree?
One of the unique aspects of the JP position is that it does not require a law degree or extensive legal training. This makes it an accessible opportunity for individuals who are passionate about justice and community service. With the right dedication and understanding of the role, anyone can bring fairness, integrity, and a Libertarian perspective to the position, helping to shape a more equitable and efficient local justice system.
Why is Justice of the Peace important for Libertarians?
JPs handle everyday legal matters like small claims and minor disputes, offering a chance to ensure fairness without excessive government intervention. From protecting individual rights to promoting impartiality and efficiency in the legal process, electing Libertarians to these positions helps advance our mission of reducing government overreach and empowering our local community.
How can the Libertarian Party of Harris County help me?

Homeless Outreach and Personal Empowerment
Dear Harris County,
As the Libertarian Party of Harris County, we believe in the power of community-driven action and the importance of taking care of one another through voluntary, compassionate efforts. This season, we are reaching out for your support in our homeless outreach and personal empowerment initiative, a grassroots effort rooted in our shared values of mutual aid and personal responsibility.
From November 1st through November 22nd, 2024, we are collecting supplies for care bags to be filled with essentials and a touch of warmth for those who need it most. Volunteers will come together on November 23rd and 24th to assemble these bags, and from November 29th to December 1st, we will distribute them across the county. We welcome anyone willing to lend a hand, whether in filling or delivering the bags.
If you would like to donate any supplies, we have an Amazon Wishlist but we also would gladly take any donations that you would like to provide. If you have something that you would like to donate that is not from the wishlist, please contact us at [email protected]

A Libertarian Perspective on the 2024 Houston ISD Bond
The Harris County Libertarian Party opposes the 2024 HISD Bond Issuance on principle and urges residents to vote against it this November. We believe in protecting individual rights and demand better, more innovative governance from HISD officials, along with fiscal responsibility. This bond will not accomplish any of that.
Here are key reasons why we Libertarians oppose the proposed $4.4 billion bond:

Independence Day
Can you believe it's already July? Campaigns are in full swing across the country, and the political landscape seems to change daily. For Libertarians, however, our course has always been clear: How do we elect Libertarians to positions of influence and continue to push the conversation toward liberty?
In Harris County, we have Chase Oliver, Ted Brown, Hawk Dunlap, David Roberson, Stephan Kinsella, and Mark Ash on the ballot for statewide races. State congressional candidates like Lee Sharp have a real chance of making a difference in Austin. LP Harris is dedicating resources from POTUS down to secure victories and advance our cause. We're more engaged in the election process in Harris County than ever before and always welcome volunteers.
